Recreation Park Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hole, par 74 golf course in Long Beach, California. Our women’s club enjoy it’s many features, including challenging elevation changes on Kikuyu fairways, with tough bunkers defending Bent and Poa greens. Our membership currently stands at 74, and we play on Tuesday mornings.
From Our President…..
In 1910, Recreation Park was known as Virginia Country Club, who leased the land from the City of Long Beach. In 1921, their lease expired, and it became Recreation Park.
In 1928, when most golfers were men, Adelene “Ad” Jones, with a dozen or so women golfers, formed Recreation Park Women’s Golf Club, making it one of the oldest golf organizations in the state. Ad Jones worked to expand her Golf Club to 175 members, and at the age of 97, she was inducted into the Long Beach Hall of Fame. She passed away in 1998 at the age of 99.
Being president of the women’s golf club at Rec Park has been a pleasure and a privilege, and my goal is, and always has been, to honor the legacy of Ad Jones by continuing to grow women’s golf at Rec Park in the years to come.
